To make tourism on the islands “a model of competitiveness and sustainability” for the whole world. That is the main objective of the ‘Opinion number 5 on the economic, social and environmental prospective of the Balearic Islands societies on the 2030 horizon’, a long title for a study prepared by the Economic and Social Council (CES) at the request of the Govern in 2017 and which was presented yesterday to the Consell de Ibiza, the UGT and CCOO trade unions, and representatives of Pimeef and CAEB. The Ibiza Councillor for Finance and Economic Management, Salvador Losa, applauded the document presented, “which indicates where we should be heading until 2030”, and said that the institution is taking up the gauntlet to develop and articulate the 157 proposals it includes. The opinion assumes that tourism “will continue to be the main growth sector” on these islands until 2030, and therefore advocates “setting limits to the increase in supply, encouraging the increase of segments that provide more added value, improving public infrastructure facilities, facilitating the improvement of the complementary offer and eliminating trivialised offers”. To achieve this, “a good dose of innovation and research” will be necessary, especially for advanced and high added value services.
