Alarm bells have gone off at the Italian airport of Palermo (Sicily), where in just three days 15 positive cases of covid of the Delta variant have been detected, “especially” in passengers coming from Ibiza after having passed through Formentera. The news, echoed by several Italian newspapers, also includes the fact that these infections are “imported”, and that in general these positives have been diagnosed in people between 19 and 22 years old, although most of them do not have serious symptoms and others are asymptomatic. The increase of covid detections in Sicily is due to the regulation approved by the governor of Sicily, Nello Musumeci, which requires covid testing of all passengers coming from Spain and Portugal. The Italian press wonders how it is possible that so many infected people are travelling and circulating through ports and airports, with the consequent risk of contagion, and points to the ineffectiveness of the controls carried out by airlines and airports, bearing in mind that the European covid passport is already in force, which can only be obtained by those who have already recovered from Covid, been vaccinated with two doses or with a test carried out 72 hours in advance.
