The British DJ Santanna Maria Ally, known professionally as Santanna Oush, has died at the age of 38 after being found unconscious inside a tent at the Houghton Festival in Norfolk, UK, according to The Times.

The incident took place on the afternoon of August 9, the final day of the festival, which is held on the grounds of Houghton Hall near King’s Lynn. According to preliminary information released by UK authorities, emergency services were called after the DJ was found unconscious in her tent.

Despite the rapid response from the festival’s medical team, Santanna Oush was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities have said that the investigation remains ongoing, but the death is not currently being treated as suspicious.

According to The Times, Ally was formally identified by her friend Amber Matheson. Her sister, Katy Ally, confirmed that she was born in London on May 15, 1988, worked as a DJ and was based in Ibiza.

More than 20 years behind the decks

Ally lived in the north of Ibiza and had built a long career within the island’s electronic music scene. She had performed at renowned Ibiza venues including Pikes, Hï Ibiza and Las Dalias, among others, and had also played at major international party brands such as Elrow.

She had been DJing for more than 20 years, initially combining music with a career in sales. For the past 11 years, she had worked as a full-time professional DJ.

Six years ago, Ally founded OuShe, a platform created to support and empower women in the music industry. Through the initiative, numerous women learned to DJ and took part in events held in Ibiza, London and Biarritz.

She was also a regular presenter on Ibiza Sonica Radio, hosting a Thursday afternoon show, and had recently launched an open-mic night. Last year, she had spoken publicly about her plans to begin producing her own music.

Tributes to Santanna Oush

A fundraising campaign launched to help cover Santanna Oush’s funeral expenses has raised more than £8,000.

Marcus Eppy, who organized the fundraiser, described Ally as someone with “a heart of gold”, saying she was always willing to help others. He also highlighted her love and passion for music and her desire to use music to “spread love.”

Her death has prompted tributes from people connected to the Ibiza music community and beyond, reflecting the impact she had both as a DJ and through her work supporting women in music.

Houghton Festival pays tribute

The Houghton Festival, which took place from August 6 to 9, attracted around 10,000 people and is known for its continuous music programme throughout the weekend.

Following Ally’s death, the festival organizers expressed their sadness and sent their condolences to her family, friends and loved ones. They also thanked the festival’s medical team, event emergency services and Norfolk Police for their response.

The death of Santanna Oush, an Ibiza-based DJ with more than two decades of experience behind the decks, has marked a tragic loss for the electronic music community in Ibiza and the wider UK music scene.
