The Formentera village is one of 34 Spanish candidates in Ferrero Rocher’s “Together We Shine Brighter” campaign. Residents and supporters can vote until November 8 to help it represent the Balearic Islands in the next round.

Sant Francesc de Formentera has been selected as one of 34 Spanish villages competing for a special Christmas light display as part of Juntos Brillamos Más (“Together We Shine Brighter”), a campaign organised by chocolate brand Ferrero Rocher.

The village will initially go head-to-head with Muro, in Mallorca, to become the Balearic Islands’ representative in a competition decided by public vote.

Now in its 13th edition, the campaign introduces a new format this year. For the first time, two towns from each of Spain’s 17 autonomous communities are taking part, facing off in an initial regional round. In previous editions, including 2025, the regional selection process followed a different format, with one municipality representing each community.

Residents of Formentera and anyone wishing to support Sant Francesc can vote through the campaign’s official website. The first-round vote remains open until Sunday, November 8, at 11.59 pm.

Four rounds to decide Spain’s winning Christmas village

The 17 municipalities that win their respective regional contests will be announced on November 9. If Sant Francesc defeats Muro, it will progress to the next stage and continue competing against towns from across Spain.

The second round will narrow the field to five municipalities, to be announced on November 30. A further public vote will then select the two finalists on December 7.

The overall winner will be revealed on December 14, receiving the special Christmas lighting display that is the competition’s main prize.

Beyond the festive spectacle, the campaign also aims to showcase the heritage, traditions and attractions of participating towns, giving them an opportunity to raise their profile among visitors and potential tourists.

A Christmas lights campaign launched in 2014

Ferrero Rocher’s Christmas initiative is not new. Together We Shine Brighter began in 2014 and has since brought special festive lighting to towns across Spain.

Previous winners include Morella, in Castellón, in 2015; Peñíscola, also in Castellón, in 2021; Mojácar, in Almería, in 2022; and La Alberca, in Salamanca, in 2023.

In 2024, the prize went to Ribadavia, in Ourense, while Tejeda, in Gran Canaria, won in 2025, beating Fuente del Maestre, in Badajoz, in the final public vote.

The Balearic Islands also took part in last year’s edition, with Sant Llorenç des Cardassar, in Mallorca, representing the region. However, it did not reach the final.

Sant Francesc now has the chance to take the next step and become the first representative from Formentera to progress beyond the regional stage of the campaign. To do so, it must secure more votes than Muro before November 8.
