Sant Antoni’s local police have stepped up their presence along the coast during the summer tourist season, with a focus on preventing offences, improving safety and maintaining public order. The council says the operation combined visible patrols with targeted interventions across the resort’s beaches and coastal areas.

The Local Police’s Territorial Beach Unit (UTP) has completed its end-of-season assessment, recording 39 interventions related to illegal street selling, 410 people identified and 187 vehicles checked between June and September, according to Sant Antoni Town Hall.

Officers also carried out 82 traffic-related interventions, alongside operations involving public safety, personal mobility vehicles (PMVs), municipal regulations and the preparation of police reports.

The council says the unit’s work combines enforcement with a continuous presence on the beaches and a focus on prevention. According to the Local Police, experience gained over successive summer seasons has helped officers develop a better understanding of the coastline and the problems that arise in different areas.

Foot patrols, bicycles and plainclothes officers

The policing operation adapts its resources to the characteristics of each area. Officers patrol on foot and by bicycle, carry out plainclothes operations and monitor the coastline from the sea.

The Local Police says this presence has a deterrent effect on certain offences, particularly those that have been more prevalent in busy tourist areas.

Neus Mateu, councillor for Public Safety, said the aim is to “maintain a police presence that is approachable, visible and adapted to the specific characteristics of coastal areas during the busiest months.”

The approach is intended to strengthen prevention and allow officers to respond more effectively to specific problems affecting the beaches and coastline.

Police jet skis extend patrols out to sea

Police jet skis have once again been part of Sant Antoni’s summer security operation. The service extends police surveillance into the maritime environment, enabling officers to respond to incidents and support other teams whenever necessary.

Throughout the season, the unit has worked alongside the municipal lifeguard and beach rescue service, Ports de les Illes Balears and other organisations on operations requiring a coordinated response across beaches, port areas and the waters close to shore.

Sant Antoni Town Hall has confirmed that the Local Police will continue to prioritise prevention and a visible presence on the ground to improve safety and help maintain good public order throughout the tourist season.
