The early opening of Ibiza’s main nightclubs in late April, a shift initiated three years ago, has proven to be a successful strategy in extending the tourist season and boosting the local economy. José Luis Benítez, manager of Ocio de Ibiza, notes that the clubbing season now starts a month earlier than pre-pandemic times, generating around 3,000 jobs and significantly increasing hotel occupancy and rates—some hoteliers have raised their prices by as much as 300%. This change has rejuvenated the island’s nightlife and tourism sectors, creating a robust demand that supports higher accommodation costs. Additionally, this shift has not only benefitted club owners but also hoteliers, despite some being reticent to openly acknowledge their dependence on the nightlife economy.
