Ibiza’s Museu Puget is launching four new educational activities on 3 November, giving young visitors and their families a fun, interactive way to discover the island’s art, history and traditions.

Designed for children aged three and over, accompanied by an adult, the activities invite families to explore selected paintings from the museum’s collection at their own pace. Through observation, games and questions, children and adults will be encouraged to look more closely at the artworks and discover the stories behind them together.

The activities will be presented through interactive information panels placed next to four selected paintings, Ibiza Town Council said in a statement. Positioned at a height accessible to children, the panels will feature questions designed to encourage younger visitors to notice details in each scene.

All materials will be available in Catalan, Spanish and English, with explanations adapted for children to make it easier for families to take part and discuss the artworks together.

Four activities exploring Ibiza’s history and traditional way of life

The first four activities focus on different aspects of the island’s history and customs, each represented in a painting from the museum’s collection.

One explores maritime transport, using a painting to show how boats once provided Ibiza’s main link with the outside world, before the development of commercial air travel. The scene also encourages visitors to consider the difficulties people faced when travelling in the past.

Another activity focuses on traditional Ibizan clothing. Through a festive scene, children can discover how men and women dressed in the island’s rural communities and compare traditional garments with the clothes people wear today.

The third takes visitors to Dalt Vila, Ibiza’s historic old town, through a painting depicting one of its former streets or corners. The artwork offers an opportunity to learn how residents obtained water before modern supply systems became widespread, while also spotting changes in the town’s urban landscape over time.

The final activity centres on a family scene linked to traditional bread-making. It introduces children to everyday household tasks in rural Ibizan homes and highlights the important role bread played in daily life.

A family-friendly museum experience at your own pace

One of the initiative’s main features is that the activities will be integrated directly into the museum’s galleries. Families can therefore take part as they explore the collection, without having to join a guided tour or follow a set route.

The open-ended questions accompanying each painting are designed to encourage conversation between children and adults. They also help younger visitors notice details in the artworks and connect what they see with Ibiza’s history and cultural heritage.

The four selected paintings mark the first stage of a wider project. The museum plans to gradually extend the initiative to other works in the Museu Puget collection, creating more opportunities for children and families to discover the artistic heritage of Ibiza Town.
