The Ibiza and Formentera Hotel Business Federation (Federación Empresarial Hotelera de Ibiza y Formentera, Fehif) has used its participation in this week’s World Travel Market in London to assess the prospects for the tourism industry in 2027, following a season that the hospitality association considers positive for the Balearic Islands.

During the international travel trade fair, the federation held a series of meetings with tourism industry professionals and representatives of regional and island-level administrations. The discussions provided an opportunity to review the past season and examine the main trends and challenges facing the sector in the year ahead.

According to Fehif, the industry is approaching the 2027 tourism season amid uncertainty and mounting cost pressures, particularly due to fluctuations in fuel prices and the impact of inflation in both Spain and the United Kingdom.

Another major concern is the growing tendency among travellers to book their holidays closer to their departure dates. In an increasingly competitive market offering a wide choice of destinations, this makes it harder for businesses to predict demand and forces the industry to adopt a more cautious approach when preparing forecasts.

Destination Positioning, Differentiation and Customer Loyalty

The meetings held in London also highlighted the need to strengthen Ibiza and Formentera’s international positioning and make their tourism offer stand out from competing destinations.

Particular attention was given to the visitor experience and adapting tourism products to different customer profiles, with the aim of improving the islands’ appeal across a wider range of markets.

Fehif also pointed to the growing influence of artificial intelligence on the tourism industry, as well as the importance of brand-building and customer loyalty strategies.

Other topics discussed included sustainability, public transport and the need to maintain promotional campaigns aimed at specific visitor segments, including family tourism.

In this regard, Fehif president María Costa highlighted the positive response to the Ibiza Family Moments project, promoted by the Ibiza Island Council (Consell d’Eivissa).

«During the meetings, particular value was placed on the Ibiza Family Moments project, promoted by the Island Council, as an initiative that strengthens Ibiza’s positioning as a family-friendly destination. We encourage its continuation and believe efforts should continue along these lines of promotion», she said in the federation’s statement.

Strengthening Ties with the UK Tourism Market

The hotel federation’s presence at the World Travel Market in London also provided an opportunity to maintain direct contact with the British tourism market and share the industry’s main challenges with public authorities.

The discussions form part of preparations for the 2027 tourism season, at a time when Ibiza and Formentera’s hotel businesses are looking to consolidate their international appeal while adapting to changing booking habits, economic pressures and new expectations among travellers.
