Around 50,000 visitors attended the island’s end-of-season closing parties over one weekend, with Spain Nightlife reporting a 2% increase in attendance compared with last year.

Ibiza’s annual end-of-season closing weekend has once again drawn huge crowds, with around 50,000 visitors attending parties at the island’s nightclubs, electronic music venues and beach clubs in just three days. The leading venues were packed, and attendance increased by 2% compared with the previous year.

José Luis Benítez, manager of industry association Spain Nightlife, welcomed the results.

“There hasn’t been much change compared with last season, but all the venues sold their tickets in advance and were full,” he said.

The large crowds attending the closings enjoyed a festive atmosphere, with no significant incidents reported, according to Benítez.

“It’s difficult to manage 50,000 young people from all over the world who want to have a great time over two days, but their behaviour has been good in an atmosphere of partying that is unique in the world,” he said.

Ibiza’s closing parties generate an estimated €60 million

The influx of electronic music fans is estimated to have generated €60 million in spending over just two days, according to industry calculations. The figure covers spending on nightlife and entertainment alone and excludes accommodation and transport.

Visitor numbers for the events rose by 2% year on year, a relatively modest increase compared with the double-digit growth the industry had become accustomed to in previous years. The result comes against a backdrop of rising flight and hotel prices, which have increased the cost of visiting the island.

Ibiza Airport has also surpassed eight million passengers, reflecting the high volume of tourism recorded on the island.

According to the industry’s estimates, individual spending at nightclubs ranges from €200 to €500 per person. Spending in VIP areas can range from €2,000 to €20,000 per person, although bills of more than €50,000 are not unheard of.

“People spend money, get carried away by the atmosphere and the music on offer, and want to make the most of it. Nine of the world’s top 10 DJs performed on the island during the closing weekend. Every club’s line-up offers a programme that people want to experience at any price, which drives up spending and the desire to have fun,” Benítez said.

Closing weekend delivers a boost to Ibiza’s nightlife businesses

The weekend of 9–10 October also provided an important economic boost for businesses connected to Ibiza’s nightlife sector, particularly smaller businesses, bars and beach clubs, according to industry representatives.

The closing parties remain a major fixture on Ibiza’s electronic music calendar, bringing international visitors to the island for one final weekend of headline DJs, packed dance floors and end-of-season celebrations.
