Drunk and drugged driver crashes on Ibiza after 100km/h chase

The drunk and drugged man tried to escape from a police checkpoint at full speed through an urban area and was injured after colliding with a billboard

A drunk and drugged man could have caused a tragedy yesterday afternoon in the area of Platja d’en Bossa and Sant Jordi when he drove at more than 100 kilometers per hour through the urban area of calle Begonias fleeing from a Policía Local control. A pursuit that ended when the drunk man lost control of his vehicle when he reached the round about at the access to the airport road, jumped over the sidewalk and collided with a billboard. The vehicle also hit a parked van.

Drunk and under the influence of drugs

The driver of the car, who tested positive for alcohol and drugs, as reported on the San Josep Policía Local Facebook account, was arrested and had to be treated by an ambulance due to sustaining injuries. The two cars were written off.

According to witnesses of the incident reported to Diario de Ibiza, the events occurred at 8pm, when agents of the Sant Josep municipal police stopped the vehicle, a Peugeot with an Italian license plate that was driving at high speed, at the round about located at the intersection between calle Begonias and calle de la Murtra. The drunk driver disregarded the order to stop and accelerated, escaping along calle Begonias at more than 100 kilometers per hour, with obvious risk for passers-by walking in the area. The driver lost control of the car when taking the curve to access the next round about, colliding with the steel poles of a billboard. Six units of the Ibiza and Sant Josep municipal police, four Guardia Civil cars and an ambulance were deployed to the scene.

The man, as detailed by the Policía Local, is charged with crimes of serious disobedience of agents, reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs; as well as injuries and damage to a parket vehicle and the billboard against which he collided.
