Ibiza-based DJ who beat rare cancer headlines Coachella festival

The dj, 33 years old, overcame a rare cancer in 2023 and while being treated he played in Ibiza

A very popular underground house music dj and producer in the industry and in Ibiza who has managed to sell a very rare cancer will headline a stage at Coachella in his first official performance since he has overcome the terrible disease.

The Londoner Michael Bibi, 33, shared a post on Instagram in May 2023 announcing that he was receiving treatment for tinnitus when doctors found a “neurological problem” and weren’t quite sure what it was.

In early June 2023, he posted an update to say that he had been “diagnosed with cNS (central nervous system) lymphoma, a very rare cancer that affects the brain and spine,” that it was “progressing fast” and that he had to “stay in the hospital and start treatment immediately.” It was then that decided to retire from the music scene.

But on September 26, 2023, just 48 hours after receiving his last chemotherapy treatment, he returned to Ibiza to play at the closing party of the DC10 nightclub. When he left the hospital, he shared a hopeful message on social networks: “When I arrived at the hospital I could barely walk. Today I leave with a smile after completing my main treatment. Tired but happy… My fight against cancer is not over… but, for now, a rest and some extra time to enjoy life”.

Said and done. Two days later, his fellow djs and fans had him in Ibiza doing what he likes the most: DJing.

In recent years, the name of this dj has sounded strong in all the posters of the best party clubs in the world. Due to his growing success, in 2020 the young man founded his own record label, Iso Lat, and in 2019 he was awarded at the DJ Awards as best artist of the genre as he is among the best, as Calvin Harris or David Guetta.

In early December 2023, Michael announced that he was cancer-free and “officially in remission” as he rang the ceremonial bell in a room at The Royal Marsden’s Oak Cancer Centre to celebrate.

Now, Michael Bibi will headline Coachella’s new electronic stage, called Quasar. It will feature three-plus hour dj sets over the two weekends, April 12-14 and April 19-21, with Michael headlining the Saturday, April 13 performances.

Headlining artists on that stage during the two weekends include Honey Dijon, Green Velvet, Jamie xx, Floating Points, Daphni, Rufus Du Sol, Eric Prydz and Diplo.

Coachella is a large annual music and arts festival held in the Colorado desert in the United States.
