Black and cracked walls, sagging beams, dismantled plates charred planks, burnt material… This is the state of the Citubo warehouse near the airport that burned yesterday at noon. The destruction is absolute. Already it advanced yesterday early in the afternoon the mayor of Sant Josep, Vicent Roig, and confirmed hours later, after intense hours of fighting the flames, from the Island Fire Station.
After several hours on fire, the structure of the supply company’s building was completely deformed and it was only a matter of time before the roof collapsed. From the outside of the premises, empty storage racks and burned bulls can be seen still with their load, also consumed, on top of them. The fire surprised the twenty or so workers who at the time were on the premises doing their chores.
The remains of the destruction
In the early hours of this morning could still be seen, among the debris and the remains of the destruction of the fire, small columns of smoke. The head of the Ibiza fire department, Miguel Sevilla, explains that there are still “hot spots” in what until yesterday at noon was the main establishment of the Ibizan company, a place where both professionals came to acquire materials for their orders and families to get appliances, kitchenware and gardening and DIY products.
The firefighters are still there. They have remained in the ship all night, taking care of cooling the space to prevent the fire from reactivating and controlling possible embers.
At the moment, the causes of the fire have not been made public. The fire originated in the rear exterior of the warehouse, in an area where there were pallets, both loaded and empty.
