Eleven additional migrants arrive in small boats towards the island of Formentera

At around 8.30 p.m., eleven men of North African background were arrested in Formentera

The flow of migrants arriving in skiffs to Formentera continues. According to the Government Delegation, eleven individuals of North African ethnicity in apparent excellent condition were discovered on the island around 20:30 hours today. The Guardia Civil and Formentera’s municipal police were involved in the operation, which seems to have started as a result of a tip from a private individual.

With these eleven individuals, there are already 41 migrants who have arrived in Formentera since December 31st. On December 31, one of these boats arrived in es Torrent de s’Alga, in es Cap, with ten passengers on board, all of North African descent. The second boat landed at 11 a.m. on January 1st in the Migjorn district of s’Estufador, carrying 15 passengers, eight of whom were of Sub-Saharan origin. Finally, on January 2nd, Salvamento Martimo rescued five more immigrants who were traveling in one of these frail boats in the waters of Formentera. These refugees were all carried directly to the port of Ibiza and appeared to be in good health.
