Several whales have been sighted this weekend in the waters of Mallorca. Specifically, they are two specimens identified as fin whales (Balaenoptera physalus), which have been sighted by several people near the lighthouse at Formentor. One of them, Josep Canyelles, managed to capture the passage of the whales from the air with a drone.
It is not the first time that the passage of rorqual whales near the Balearic Islands has been recorded at this time of the year migrate to southern waters.
This cetacean is the second largest animal in the world, second only to the blue whale. It can reach 27 meters long and 70 tons in weight. Its presence is considered an indicator of the health of the sea.
