DIARIO DE IBIZA remains the leader in sales and readership in the Pitiusan press

Diario de Ibiza maintains its leadership in both sales and readership among the Pitiusan press, in its print and digital editions, according to the latest certifications from the Office for the Justification of Diffusion (OJD) and the General Media Study (EGM), the two independent bodies that measure media circulation and audience figures.

The latest EGM data, published this week, reaffirm the clear leadership of Diario de Ibiza, with compelling figures: its print edition records 18,000 daily readers, compared to 7,000 for Periódico de Ibiza, whose readership in Formentera is negligible, as it does not even appear in the report. By contrast, Diario de Ibiza has 1,000 daily readers on that island, according to the EGM. The EGM is a media consumption study conducted by the Association for Media Research (AIMC). These figures also show that Diario de Ibiza’s audience has grown by 12% compared to the previous wave.

Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera has celebrated its results after surpassing Diario de Ibiza by 22 copies in the latest annual OJD certification, which measures the average daily circulation between July 2024 and June 2025. It has subsequently presented a series of percentages that selectively interpret the data.

What it does not highlight in its self-promotion is that, during the same period and according to the same OJD certification, Diario de Ibiza sold 59% more copies per day at newsstands than Periódico de Ibiza y Formentera (PIF), and more than twice as many (122% more) when sales are calculated from Monday to Saturday.

In fact, PIF’s OJD figures are largely driven by the high number of free copies it distributes, the artificial inflation of its subscriber base, and the exclusive readership of Pronto magazine, which it distributes with the newspaper on Sundays. PIF only surpasses Diario de Ibiza in sales on Sundays, due to the strong demand for Pronto. Excluding free copies, Diario de Ibiza remains ahead of PIF.

In recent years, Diario de Ibiza has focused its strategy on digital transformation and on consolidating its strong online presence in Ibiza and Formentera. As a result, its digital edition not only attracts tens of thousands of daily unique users, but also has a stable community of more than 2,300 paying subscribers to its premium content. Diario de Ibiza is also the leading digital news outlet in the Pitiusas, accounting for more than 55% of total daily unique users and page views across the islands.
