The Passeig de ses Fonts welcomes the fifth Pitiusas Organic Farming Fair on Sunday, 8 November, with local produce, children’s workshops, food, music and activities for all the family.
Organic produce from Ibiza and Formentera will take centre stage this Sunday, 8 November, at a family-friendly event combining food, music, children’s workshops and educational activities.
The fifth Pitiusas Organic Farming Fair will take place at the Passeig de ses Fonts in Sant Antoni, running from 10.30 am to 6 pm.
Organised by the Association of Organic Farming Producers of Ibiza and Formentera (Apaeef), with support from Sant Antoni Town Council and other organisations, the fair aims to bring local agriculture closer to families, encourage people to buy locally produced food and promote healthy eating.
This year’s theme, ‘Llavors que eduquen, aliments que cuiden’ (Seeds that educate, food that cares), puts the spotlight on food education, school gardens and the inclusion of organic, locally sourced produce in school meals.
The programme will begin at 10.30 am with a traditional ball pagès performance by Sa Colla de Can Bonet, showcasing Ibiza’s traditional rural dance. Throughout the day, visitors will be able to browse stalls run by organic producers from the islands, see animals from native breeds and explore an exhibition of agricultural machinery.
Children’s workshops, talks and live music
Younger visitors will have plenty to enjoy, with a series of nature- and farming-themed workshops running from 10.30 am to 1 pm.
Activities will include planting local crop varieties, building insect hotels, making crafts from natural materials, and creating scented sachets and necklaces using medicinal plants.
From 11.30 am, a programme of short talks will cover topics such as healthy eating, school gardens and direct sales of organic produce. Presentations will also introduce initiatives including the Banc de Terres (Land Bank) and the ‘Alimentant el Futur’ (Feeding the Future) project.
Food and entertainment will be central to the celebrations, with a popular communal paella, accompanied by music from Martin Pollard. The programme will also feature ‘Un hort de contes’, a storytelling session by Maritza Tejeuentos, followed by a musical performance from Batafaluga.
The fair will close with a raffle featuring organic products and the presentation of prizes in a drawing competition for pupils from Sant Antoni schools taking part in the school gardens project.
A celebration of 25 years of organic farming in Ibiza
This fifth edition of the fair coincides with the 25th anniversary of Apaeef, the association working to promote organic agriculture and encourage a more sustainable food system across Ibiza and Formentera.
For visitors, the event offers an opportunity to discover local island produce, meet the people behind its production and enjoy a varied programme of activities while learning more about sustainable farming in the Pitiusas.
