September is set to begin with stable weather and above-average temperatures in the Balearic Islands, including Ibiza and Formentera, according to the latest monthly forecast from Spain’s State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) covering the next three weeks.
During the week of August 31 to September 6, stable weather is expected to dominate much of Spain, with the Balearic Islands also benefiting from generally settled conditions. Temperatures are expected to rise again, reaching above-average levels for this time of year, particularly across the Mediterranean region.
Rainfall is likely to remain limited during the first week of September. Aemet’s forecast points to a mostly dry week in the Balearic Islands, with any rainfall expected to be light or of little significance. The wider weather pattern will be dominated by atmospheric stability.
September 7–13: Continued warm and mostly dry conditions
The weather outlook for September 7 to 13 is broadly similar. Temperatures are expected to remain above the seasonal average, while rainfall is likely to stay limited.
Aemet does, however, foresee the possibility of rain in northern mainland Spain and thunderstorms across inland and eastern areas of the country. At this stage, there are no indications of a widespread rainfall event affecting the Balearic Islands.
September 14–20: Greater uncertainty in the forecast
The third week covered by Aemet’s outlook, from September 14 to 20, comes with a higher degree of uncertainty. Based on the information currently available, temperatures are still expected to remain above normal across the Balearic Islands and surrounding areas.
The rainfall outlook for this period is less clear. Aemet indicates that precipitation could develop mainly over eastern mainland Spain, although the longer forecasting horizon means these predictions should be treated with caution.
The meteorological agency stresses that monthly forecasts are based on anomalies relative to the model’s climatology, and that uncertainty naturally increases as the forecast period becomes longer.
Sunny weekend ahead for Ibiza and Formentera
Ibiza and Formentera are set for a sunny and stable weekend, with no significant rainfall expected, according to Aemet.
On Saturday, skies will remain clear throughout the day, with no chance of rain. Temperatures will range from a low of 22°C to a high of 31°C.
Winds will come from the southeast during the morning at around 15 km/h, becoming light in the afternoon at approximately 10 km/h. Winds will be almost calm overnight.
On Sunday, stable conditions will continue. The first half of the day will see mostly clear or slightly cloudy skies, followed by predominantly sunny conditions in the afternoon. Rain is again not expected.
Temperatures will remain very similar to Saturday, with a minimum of 21°C and a maximum of 31°C. Southeast winds of around 15 km/h are forecast throughout the day.
Spain set for its hottest meteorological summer on record
Meanwhile, Aemet says that although there are only a few days left until the end of the meteorological summer, which runs from June 1 to August 31, it is already virtually certain that this will be the hottest summer on record in mainland Spain.
The outlook points to a warm and predominantly dry start to September in Ibiza and Formentera, with temperatures remaining above average and little rainfall expected across the Balearic Islands during the first half of the month.
