Practical guide to lowering your electricity bill in Ibiza and Formentera: where to find all the information you need

Complaining about high electricity prices has become a constant in today’s society. So, too, is the uncertainty faced by individuals and companies who want to reduce their energy consumption or switch to renewable energy sources — whether for economic reasons or environmental awareness — and simply do not know where to start.

However, the reality is that both in Formentera and Ibiza there are dedicated spaces where citizens, businesses and institutions can receive information and guidance to help them move towards an energy transition that benefits both users and the environment. These are the Balearic Islands’ Energy Transition Offices (Oteib), which have just celebrated their second anniversary after handling more than 12,000 enquiries. According to data from the Balearic Government, the most frequent questions relate to subsidies for renewable energy.

In Formentera, the Oteib is located in a small office in the centre of Es Pujols, specifically at 51 Carrer Roca Plana. It assists the public on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. during the winter months. Opened in July 2024, this office provides support for issues ranging from understanding an electricity bill in order to optimise consumption and reduce costs, to more complex matters such as applying for renewable energy grants.

For residents in Ibiza interested in these services, the Oteib office is located at 12 Calle Castilla. Opening hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Tuesdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and from 4 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. Information can also be requested by email at eivissa@oficinesenergia.cat or formentera@oficinesenergia.cat.
