The Local Police of Sant Antoni has arrested three individuals allegedly involved in several robberies with force committed in different establishments in the municipality in recent weeks. The incidents, which occurred mainly at night, had generated concern among local shopkeepers. Two of the detainees were arrested on Monday, November 24, and the third on Thursday, November 27. All three men, who are adults, were brought before the court following their arrest. Two of them have previous police records for similar offences.
The investigation began after complaints were filed by the owners of the affected establishments, who alerted the Guardia Civil about the robberies. From that moment, a joint effort between the Guardia Civil and the Local Police was launched, allowing officers to analyse images obtained from the video surveillance systems of the targeted businesses. These recordings were key to identifying the alleged perpetrators, who apparently acted individually. After examining the evidence, a coordinated operation was carried out, culminating in the arrest of the three individuals.
The facts
At Bar Es Clot, in the early hours of October 26, a thief broke the glass door with a stone, waited for the alarm to stop sounding and then returned to enter the premises. Once inside, he stole the tip jar, containing around 1,500 euros, and the cash register, which held another 500 euros. “In recent weeks, we have noticed more movement of unknown people or people behaving unusually in the area”, the owner of the bar said days later. Later, at Bar Urban, located at 35 Soledad Street, a young man smashed the window, went straight to the bar, cut the cash register cable and fled in less than thirty seconds with 300 euros and a mobile phone.
The City Council of Sant Antoni and the Local Police Headquarters highlighted the efficiency and speed of the officers’ actions, as well as the important collaboration of local residents and the close coordination with the Guardia Civil, which made it possible to clarify the robberies and arrest those responsible.
With this operation, according to the City Council of Sant Antoni, the security forces have managed “to take an important step in the fight against crime in the municipality, offering reassurance to both traders and residents of Sant Antoni”.
