Insecurity in the streets of Sant Ferran, far from being solved

On 15 October, a group of Sant Ferran residents went to the Civil Guard headquarters to file a collective complaint in an effort to put an end to the antisocial behaviour of several young people who have been sowing fear in the streets of the Formentera village for months. Although the initiative was unsuccessful, the media reported on the troubling situation, which had also been highlighted by the parents’ association (Apima) of the Sant Ferran de ses Roques school and the Association of the Islamic Centre of Formentera in statements addressed to the Consell, calling for urgent measures to restore peace in the town.

Three weeks have passed and, according to residents, nothing has changed: the individuals, who are fully identified, continue to roam freely around the square, insulting children and stealing from shops and homes. Earlier this week, several cars were found with their windows smashed in a dirt car park at the entrance to the village, as reported by several owners on social media—an incident that adds to the persistent sense of insecurity felt by Sant Ferran residents. There is no official confirmation that the same young people are responsible, but there are strong suspicions, as the vandalism occurred in an area they regularly frequent.
