A visit by the Labour Inspectorate to Formentera‘s residence for the elderly on 14 October revealed “very serious breaches” at the social and health centre, according to a statement released on Wednesday by UGT. Among the deficiencies, the union highlights serious issues such as locked emergency exits; expired fire extinguishers that have not been inspected since October 2024; shortcomings in health monitoring, preventive training and occupational risk planning; problems in staff organisation and shift schedules that directly affect the quality of care; and deficiencies in the assessment of psychosocial risks.
The union, which filed a complaint months ago with the body responsible for monitoring, control and advisory functions in labour matters, is now demanding political and managerial accountability, the immediate correction of misapplied schedules and the completion of the evaluation of the new shifts, pending since September. UGT states that the official conclusions of the Labour Inspectorate confirm what workers have been denouncing for months: the care home operates with a lack of qualified staff, disorganisation and clear risks for both residents and employees.
“The change of schedules imposed by management has not been implemented correctly, which is generating labour tensions and affecting the care provided to the elderly”, the union said. In addition, as Diario de Ibiza reported in its 1 November edition, an evaluation of the residence’s schedules and overall operation has been pending since September and has still not been carried out. UGT demands that this assessment be completed immediately and following clear criteria.
