Late on Thursday afternoon, around 7:30 p.m., two men got into a fight in the middle of the street in the centre of Sant Antoni. A local resident shared a video of the incident on social media as a way of denouncing the situation, captioning it ironically: “A normal evening in Sant Antoni”.
As seen in the footage, the men stopped their vehicles in the middle of the road, got out, and began a physical altercation involving pushing, hitting and shoving.
Crime in the municipality
This incident is not an isolated case. According to data from the Ministry of the Interior, during the second quarter of this year the municipality recorded 1,143 criminal offences, including 19 robberies with violence, 44 burglaries in homes and businesses, 43 reports of drug trafficking and 35 vehicle thefts.
Two years ago, the City Council launched a recruitment process to fill six vacancies in the Local Police force. A total of 116 candidates applied, with the aim of strengthening security—particularly during the summer season, when the municipality receives the highest influx of tourists.
