The latest report by Exceltur — a non-profit association made up of 32 of the most important companies across the entire tourism value chain — on Tourism Outlook 2025 and its assessment of last summer’s tourism performance highlights “the effort” made in Ibiza to eradicate illegal tourist accommodation from online platforms.
In this regard, the report notes that this summer there was “an incipient reduction” (-3.7% across Spain compared to the same period in 2024) “in the supply of tourist homes in the 25 main Spanish cities, as a result of the positive implementation of the Digital One-Stop Shop for Rentals and the varying levels of effort made by public authorities in different destinations to combat illegality”. In a sort of ranking of efforts “to eradicate it”, Ibiza is placed first — ahead of Valencia, Palma, San Sebastián, Barcelona and, more recently, Madrid.
In fact, Exceltur attributes to Ibiza the highest year-on-year reduction (up to August) in the number of listings on platforms such as Airbnb: 40.9%. It is followed, at a considerable distance, by A Coruña (-28%), Palma (-17.4%), Murcia (-14.2%), Gijón (-11.4%), Valencia (-11.3%) and Madrid (-5.39%).
