Young man from Ibiza under investigation for driving sports car at 186 km/h on the Sant Antoni road

Officers from the Civil Guard’s Traffic Division are investigating a 20-year-old Spanish national accused of committing a road safety offence in Ibiza.

The incident took place last Friday, when a fixed speed camera operated by Spain’s Directorate General of Traffic (DGT) recorded a sports car travelling towards Sant Antoni at 186 kilometres per hour, on a stretch of road where the speed limit is 80 kilometres per hour.

After detecting the speeding violation at the DGT’s Estrada Centre, the case was referred to the Civil Guard’s Traffic Division on the island, which launched an investigation to identify the driver. Authorities stressed that this is not a simple administrative infraction, but a criminal offence against road safety.

Following the necessary enquiries, officers have now opened an investigation against the young man, a resident of Ibiza Town, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against road safety.

The Civil Guard reiterated the importance of respecting speed limits and emphasised that excessive speed remains one of the main causes of traffic accidents on Spanish roads, warning that such behaviour endangers not only the driver but all other road users.
