The artist Cindy Houdini has given life to an imaginary project that has captured the attention of residents and visitors: Ibiza Tube Map 2025, a fictitious subway network that transforms Ibiza into a subway network of more than a hundred stations
The map was recently presented at the Agony Ecstasy Gallery, in Ibiza. It is an artistic creation that is also for sale as a limited edition printed on paper. The design is inspired by classic urban subway maps, especially in styles such as the London Underground, adapting that iconic graphic language to represent the island.
Houdini’s aim is to reinterpret the contemporary identity of the island: its beaches, nightlife, gastronomy, nature, restaurants, cultural corners; all those spaces converted into subway stations.
Lines, stations and route
The map includes more than a hundred stations, organized in several thematic lines. Some of the main lines with their names are Disco Line, Matutes Line, Es Vedrà Line and Guiri Line. 19659007]The most peculiar stops are those referring to discos , iconic restaurants, famous beaches or tourist spots: the idea is that you can ‘travel’ from a party to a sunset or a restaurant as if you were changing metro lines.
What would be the longest route?
As it is an imaginary network, there are no real distance metrics such as exact tunnel kilometers. But, given that one line (such as the Es Vedrà Line) goes all the way to the islet of es Vedrà, we could consider that route as one of the “longest” in the plan devised by Houdini.
It is not specified if the lines cover the whole island completely (as towards all the smaller towns), but they do cover the areas of tourist interest, beaches, clubs and cultural landmarks.
Could it be a reality?
In real terms, having a metro in Ibiza poses many challenges: geographical (terrain, relief, coastal presence), infrastructure cost, population density, environmental impact, permits, etc. So far, the project is simply art, an imaginative exercise, not a formal proposal, so it does not seem something close in the immediate future.
