Nero, Neil Taylor’s superyacht that sails around Ibiza

These days it is sailing in the waters of Ibiza and the yacht Nero, owned by the tycoon and philanthropist Denis O’Brien an influential Irish billionaire with an estimated net worth of $4 billion, known for his business activities in the telecommunications sector.

But this luxurious ship, whose construction was commissioned in 2008 from China’s Yantai Raffles Shipyard by the visionary Game Group founder Neil Taylor, has a story of its own. And it is that the design aesthetics of the Nero is inspired by the historical yacht Corsairan 1899 creation owned by the iconic J.P. Morgan that, in its day, was the largest private yacht in history. In the early 2000s, Taylor became interested in buying a used boat to restore it to a design as close to the Corsair as possible, but it didn’t turn out as he had hoped, so he decided to build a replica.

Winner of the best Motor Yacht over 75 meters award at the 2009 ShowBoats International Design Awards, Nero was acquired by Denis O’Brien in 2014 for $70 million. He subsequently subjected the boat to an extensive refit at MB92 in Barcelona to enhance its splendor. O’Brien owns Digicell, a company that wields great influence in the mobile carrier industry, with 14 million subscribers worldwide.

The essence of the Nero lies not only in its design. This vessel can comfortably accommodate 12 people split between the owner’s suite and four guest suites with the assistance of a professional crew of 20. It features indoor and outdoor lounges, a selection of formal and informal dining options, a cinema room, a fully equipped gymnasium and beauty salon, as well as a cocktail lounge.
