Ryanair’s new 40-minute rule: 100 euro fine

Irish low-cost airline, Ryanair, has announced that it has a new regulations which affects all passengers and that non-compliance will result in a fine of 100 euros if the 40-minute rule is not complied with.

Nowadays, when most travelers check in online and many choose not to check any luggage, many people prefer to arrive just before boarding closes to avoid staying at the airport too long.

It is generally recommended to arrive at least two hours early for short-haul flights and three hours early for long-haul travel to allow enough time to get through security, especially during peak daylight hours and high season.

However, the low-cost airline’s new policy irish addresses travelers arriving in the airport with less than 40 minutes to your scheduled flight.

The on-the-spot fine will be applied to each passenger who arrives at their check-in counter less than 40 minutes before the scheduled departure of their flight.

At that time, the check-in counter would already be closed and boarding would be underway.

The same fine will apply to those who attempt to book a flight on the next flight after missing the original.

The airline’s policy regarding missed flights states: “It is only available with less than 40 minutes notice and up to one hour after the flight departure time. It is also available to customers arriving at the ticket counter up to one hour after the departure of their flight to move to the next available flight. The fee is charged per passenger per sector.”

To avoid these additional costs, Ryanair advises passengers to check in online and arrive at the airport in plenty of time.

This comes after Ryanair confirmed it will delay the transition to paperless boarding passes until later this year.

Passengers will still be able to download and print a physical paper boarding pass until November 3, 2025.
