Sequel to ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ to be filmed in Ibiza

In the UK they are already warming up for the premiere of ‘Rise of the Footsoldier. Ibiza’, filmed on the island. This is a new installment in the series of films, very popular among the British, that tell the story of its protagonist, Carlton Leach, the leader of the most feared soccer supporters’ group in history and who goes from hooligan to gangster. Actor Craig Fairbrass, who plays Pat Tate, one of the saga’s villains, has shared some images of the filming on social networks on the island. “It was a beastly job shooting the first part of ‘Rise of the Footsoldier Ibiza’, but we certainly nailed it again,” comments the actor in a post in which he shares three images.

In them she can be seen sporting scars and wounds, something intrinsic to her character. In one of the photos he poses with other filming partners, very smiling and with the sea behind him. In another one, he is fully into the role, looking grumpy and in what seems to be the Festival Club. In a third he is seen surrounded by colleagues during filming, which features one of the hot rods that are so common in the ‘Rise of the Footsoldier’ saga the first installment of which was released in the UK in 2007.

The film is set in Ibiza in the mid-1990s, at the height of the discotheque boom. Tate (played by Fairbrass) arrives on the island with the intention of avenging the death of a friend and ends up in unpleasant dealings with drug dealers and arms dealers, according to the production company.

Foam party in Sant Antoni

Byron Gibson, another of the actors of the saga who already appeared in the installment that was filmed in Marbella, has also shared in networks moments of the shooting on the island, which he describes as a “success”. In some of the videos shared by some of the actors or the franchise itself, you can see how they flew to the island with British Airways for the shooting as well as some off-camera moments, from the arrival at the hotel, the sea views from the rooms, jokes between the actors who on screen are enemies or laughter in an empty nightclub in Sant Antoni where they recorded scenes at a foam party. In one of them, fairbrass himself jokes with the possibility that at the end of the first day of shooting on the island, where he had a great time, his character will end up dead. In fact, one of the posters shared by the franchise shows his character next to the picture of es Vedrà with the message “It ends here”.

Some of the installments of the franchise have won several awards. Among them, the Nafta for best independent film. The first films are inspired by the true story of a hooligan who became one of the most violent mafia bosses in London in the 1980s, as well as other drug dealers who were shot dead in 1995.

Violence and brutality

‘Rise of the Footsoldier. Ibiza’, scheduled for release next year, is the seventh installment in the saga. It hits screens and platforms after ‘Rise of the Footsoldier: Vengeance’, which was released in 2023.

The production company assures that the film shot in Ibiza is, so far, “the most ambitious and cinematographic” of the seven they have made. They also point out that the island is “the perfect backdrop” for images and photography that will please fans of the saga: “We have done everything possible for the action scenes and stunts,” they said before pointing out that the beauty of the landscapes will not make them leave aside what fans expect: “Visceral violence and brutality.
