This is how tourists saw Ibiza in the 1960s

Tourists arriving in Ibiza in the 60’s enjoyed a very different island to the one we have now. Landscapes with few buildings, beaches without sunbeds and hardly any umbrellas and not a single yacht in the harbor.

A home video recorded in 1966 by someone who visited Ibiza and wanted to immortalize it shows images of some areas that have nothing to do with what we see today. The images are mostly recorded in the area of Talamanca or Cap Martinet. On the beach there are only a few fishing boats. You can also recognize, by name, some restaurants.

In the four minutes of the video of this vacation in Ibiza in 1966, you can see the lighthouse of es Botafoc, with no maritime station or anything built around it; the port of Vila from the avenue of Santa Eulària, where the moorings were for a fishing boat or two, and a silhouette of Dalt Vila in which the parador was not even imagined.

Tourists also enjoyed several coves on the island, including, Cala Bassa, where at that time there was no beach club, nor were there sunbeds and umbrellas invading the whole space.

The video, shared on Youtube with the tags #Eivissa and #Nostalgia, has more than 1,000 views.
