The prisoner who tried to escape on Monday in the centre of Ibiza, helped by two armed hooded men, had been arrested two months ago in a villa in Sant Josep by agents of the National Police Corps, due to a complaint from the British justice system. The man was not committing any crime when he was arrested, but the National Police (competent body in international cases) arrested him when they learned that he was on the island.
On the other hand, the Guardia Civil maintains the search operation for the two fugitives who tried to help the fugitive escape from British justice. The National Police Corps and local police forces are also collaborating in the operation. The security forces have reinforced control at airports, ports and roads to find the fugitives. The two hooded men managed to escape after assaulting the civil guards who were guarding the prisoner as they left a dentist’s office in the center of Vila on Monday morning.

The identity of the two individuals who tried to free the prisoner is unknown on Monday at 11 am in the middle of the Eixample area, one of the busiest in Vila, and who escaped in a black Land Rover that appeared early yesterday morning (00.20 am) abandoned and set on fire, apparently intentionally, in the vicinity of the camí vell de Sant Mateu (Santa Eulària), near a photovoltaic installations that were not affected by the flames. Six firefighters from Ibiza responded to the fire in a vehicle that turned out to be a Land Rover, stolen and with false license plates, and intervened for an hour to extinguish the flames with a fire engine and a fire truck. The fire also extinguished the tracks of the fugitives, who are wanted and are being tracked down all over the island.
