“We all know that it is a problem that is growing and will not be solved just by talking about it. It is the time to apply practical and viable solutions ,” said the president of the Consell, Vicent Marí, on the agreement adopted yesterday by the Council of Mayors to regulate vehicle access to beaches with “overcrowding” problems.
The president stressed the importance of “anticipating” the problem that will be repeated in 2022, and that it should be addressed with possible control measures to prevent the situation of “come July and August and nothing has been done”. “This problem could be very serious if measures are not taken in time,” added the island president.
To begin with, the mayors will present a map with the areas of the coast that generate the most problems of overcrowding and parking difficulties and where it is considered that intervention is needed.
Vicent Marí explained that the idea is to look for land to locate “alternative car parks” and that, from these points, users can travel to the beach with shuttle buses, as in Benirràs and Cala Salada. “It is not possible to reach the beach by car”, justified the president, who pointed out the need to apply “monitoring and control”.
In this sense, Marí indicated that all the administrations must get involved and, in the case of the Consell, the project Ibiza Smart Island is expected to be used to control the capacity of some of the beaches that receive the most attention in summer. The president said that “solutions should be applied in stages” and that some of them should work from next summer.
