The Ibiza and Formentera marinas are already full in July and August

Only moorings for medium length vessles in June and September remain and very few in the marinas of Ibiza and Formentera | Long-term bookings are increasing and the number of charter companies or boats listed as commercial, etc. is increasing.

The marinas of Ibiza and Formentera have already have the “full” sign hung for the months of July and August this season. Therefore, as of today it is impossible to find a mooring in any of the facilities of Ibiza and Formentera, as they are all booked. There is still some space for June and September but not in all marinas.

The directors of the ports consulted agree in expressing their satisfaction with the recovery of the sector to levels even higher than 2019, although it is also true that during the pandemic the marine sector was not particularly affected, considering that boats were a safer place to spend vacations. Another element that they detect is that the reservations of charter companies, boat rental, and even some boats have changed from recreational use, to commercial, to compensate for the expense of maintaining the boat.

Another novelty is that the longer length boats of more than 25 meters are not booking like other years and the trend is that they do so at the last moment without the thought of other boats of between 15 and 20 meters in length.

The director of Marina Ibiza, Dani Marí, with 379 moorings and a dry marina of 106, explains that last year the season for them was already good “because boats have been seen as a safe option for leisure”. Regarding this year, he claims that what he observes is that “there are less and less longer length boats of more than 25 or 30 meters booking in advance and we already noticed this last year as they were one day bookings”. With these lengths he observes that they do not book early, “they do not make the reservation in advance”. On the other hand, from 20 meters downwards, he assures that they have “accommodation all season long, from 15 meters downwards there is no room”.

He also notes that charters “are moving a lot, the companies in Ibiza are doing very well and in the end people choose to rent a boat and enjoy a day of sailing”.

Larger yachts over 25 meters booked per day

Larger yachts over 25 meters tend to book per day, while in other seasons they booked longer stays.

Full house

In most of the marinas of Ibiza and Formentera it is currently impossible to book a mooring for the months of July and August. In some of these facilities even June and September are also full.

Key sector

All marine companies consulted predict a good season and the recovery of the marine industry, key to tourism on Ibiza and Formentera.

The director of the marina Botafoc, Raul Prats, with 432 berths from six to 30 meters in length, says that in the case of this marina “for the months of June, July, August and September everything is full”. He adds that from the information he has “for all the ports of Ibiza everything is going very well, unless the war in Ukraine gives us a scare”.
