Today (11.00am) sees the RFEBM hold the draw for the second knockout round of the Copa del Rey, a tournament in which UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza team will be taking part for the first time

UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza awaits its opponents for the second round of the Copa del Rey on Thursday with great excitement. The Ibizan team, which is taking part in this knockout phase of the Copa del Rey for the first time, will once again make history for Balearic handball, given that the squad coached by Eugenio Tilves will most likely be playing against an opponent from the Asobal League, the top domestic tier.

At 11.00am today, the Tournament Committee of the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (Rfebm) will hold the draw for the second round of the XLVII Copa del Rey men’s handball tournament, the penultimate step before the final phase which will be played in Antequera in March. And it will do so with up to 12 qualifying rounds that will pit the División de Honor Plata Men’s teams plus Frigoríficos Morrazo Cangas and Bathco Torrelavega, all of them placed in Pot D, against the remaining teams in the Sacyr ASOBAL League, with the exception of the champions, Barça, and the host, Iberoquinoa Antequera, who are placed in Pot C.

As a result, the overall draw is as follows:

Pot C: Bidasoa Irún, Logroño La Rioja, Fraikin Granollers, Bada Huesca, Incarlopsa Cuenca, Abanca Ademar León, Ángel Ximénez Puente Genil, Recoletas Atlético Valladolid, Helvetia Anaitasuna, BM Benidorm, Viveros Herol Nava and Unicaja Banco Sinfín.

Pot D: Frigoríficos Morrazo Cangas, Bathco Torrelavega, Trops Málaga, UD Ibiza-HC Ibiza, Vestas Alarcos Ciudad Real, Sant Quirze, BM Soria, UBU San Pablo-Burgos, Fertiberia Puerto Sagunto, Alcobendas, UE Sarriá and Barça B.

This second qualifying round, scheduled for Wednesday 15 December, is a single home game for the teams in Pot D, which in the case of HC Ibiza will be played in the Santa Eulària pavilion, as the sa Blanca Dona pavilion will be under construction at the time.
