UD Ibiza falls in a crazy, heart-stopping finale at Carlos Tartiere

UD Ibiza went from a comeback to lose in the last minute against Real Oviedo, who mistakenly celebrated qualification for the play-offs after the final whistle and ended up dejected despite the victory.

UD Ibiza bid farewell yesterday to its debut season in LaLiga SmartBank with a dramatic defeat against Real Oviedo at the Carlos Tartiere stadium (3-2). The Ibizan side equalized twice thanks to goals from Claverías, a debutant in the league, and Davo, but ended up losing on penalty in the last minute after having their rival against the ropes. UD Ibizan went from the comeback to fall in the last minute against an Oviedo team that mistakenly sealed the qualification for the ‘play-off’ after the final whistle.

Paco Jémez‘ final line-up of the season the included the young midfielder Alejandro Claverías’ debut in Second Division, due to the absences of Manu Molina, Javi Pérez and Kevin Appin. The reserve team player accompanied Javi Lara in the midfield, who started in his farewell as a Celeste alongside David Morillas at left back. The entry of Álex in goal, Rubén in midfield and Miki Villar on the wing were the other novelties in the island formation.

It was Real Oviedo, who had the most at stake in the last league game, who had the first chances through Obeng, who scored offside, and Borja Bastón twice, first after anticipating at the near post to almost score the first goal of the afternoon and then with a shot that went wide after beating the Ibizan backline.

The Asturians overcame the UD Ibiza lines with relative ease, making their intentions to reach the ‘play-off’ clear, while Paco Jémez’s team tried with little success to control the game. Viti and Obang set up a new opportunity that put a stop to a good intervention by Álex, who again repelled the hard cross shot of the Oviedo striker Bastón 10 minutes after the start of the match.

The young Claverías was the first to test Femenias’ goal with a far left-footed shot with great intention after receiving a free ball from Ekain (min. 12). The match began to get out of hand, but in a quick transition, Cuco Ziganda’s men scored when Borja Sánchez got the back of the defense and, after breaking free from Morillas, beat Álex from the edge of the box with an exquisite and subtle touch (1-0, min. 18).

The young Claverías made his debut in the Second Division with UD Ibiza as a starter and scored the goal that made it 1-1 after 50 minutes

The game entered an intense struggle for the ball in midfield; the pace dropped and the spaces were shortened, which resulted in a slump in arrivals to the opponent’s area. UD Ibiza ended the first half in the opponent’s territory but without much punch, beyond a rebound that Rubén caught in the area and that Herrera could not finish off in front of goal.
