High-flying rhythmic gymnastics on Ibiza

The Ibizan clubs that have qualified gymnasts for the Spanish Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Zaragoza are Peña Deportiva, CD Hema, Puig d'en Valls and Portmany.

Last weekend, the Ibiza rhythmic gymnastics squad enjoyed an intense day of community and competition at the regional level at the Sant Eulària sports center, to celebrate the individual Balearic Base Championship and Base Cup, a qualifier for the National Rhythmic Gymnastics Championship to be held in Zaragoza from 20th to 24th April.

The event, which took place in the morning and afternoon, was attended by a total of 241 gymnasts from Menorca, Mallorca and Ibiza, representing the clubs CB Puig d’en Valls, CD Hema, CGR Tanit, Peña Deportiva Santa Eulalia, Portmany and UE Sant Josep.

Of the Ibizan representatives, the host club of the event, the Peña Deportiva de Santa Eulalia, managed to qualify a group of five of its representatives for the national competition, made up of Martina Arcas (Junior 2021/clubs), Kima Vial (Junior 2021/clubs), Cristina Arcas (Cadet 2007/ribbon), María García (Cadet 2007/ribbon) and Lucía Marí (Junior/hoop).

Isa Mulas, technical director of the Peña Deportiva de Santa Eulalia, wanted to highlight the “high level” of the participants and the “good atmosphere” that reigned during the competition in the Villa del Río pavilion, which attracted an excellent turnout of fans and family members in the stands.

“As the public is now allowed in the stands, the pavilion was very full all day and the atmosphere was great because many people from Menorca and Mallorca came”, says the technical director of the host club, while indicating: “The truth is that, after the pandemic, the girls needed to feel the warmth of the public and their parents from the stands. It was a very good championship, to be honest”.

Eight from Hema and Puig d’en Valls

CD Hema will also be present at the Spanish Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in Zaragoza, after four of its gymnasts participating in the Balearic Base Championship won a place at the event: Victoria García (Under 10’s/ML), Martina García (Under 13’s 2010/rope), Noa Torres (under 13’s 2010/rope) and Selena Marí (cadete 2007/ribbon).

CB Puig d’en Valls, on the other hand, classified a quartet of four gymnasts formed by Judit Riera (Under 10’s/ML), Claudia Hormigo (under 10’s/ML), Laia Mora (under 11’s 2011/clubs) and Celine Andrés Wong (Under 11’s 2011/clubs).

El Portmany also obtained good results and became the Ibiza club that managed to secure the most representation in terms of the number of places obtained for the Spanish Championships in Zaragoza, winning a total of seven places for its athletes, with a group of competitors that is made up of Sonia Martín (Under 10’s/ML), Corina Monia (Under 10’s/ML), Nayara Lucena (Under 11’s 2021/clubs), Andrea Lengyel (Under 13’s 2009/rope), Ainara Macías (Under 13’s 2009/rope), Sofía Sánchez (Under 13’s 2009/rope) and Marta Cardona (Junior 2005/hoop).
