On Saturday, May 7th, the spectacular turquoise waters of Formentera hosted another year of the Marnaton eDreams Formentera by Baleària, the first event on the calendar of the Marnaton eDreams Cup, the country’s renowned open water swimming circuit. About 500 swimmers have gathered on Formentera to complete the 8, 4.5 and 2 kilometer distances of the race set in paradise, with arrival at the beach of es Pujols, next to the Hotel Roca Bella.
David Campà, director of Marnaton, declared that “the day has been perfect, the sea and the wind worked with us, and all participants have been able to enjoy the turquoise waters, the beaches and the incredible environment of the natural park. Swimming here is undoubtedly a privilege”.
“Looking forward to coming back again”
In this sense, Campà added that “without the vital support of Baleària, the Consell de Formentera and eDreams this race would not be possible, so we are extremely grateful and looking forward to returning next year”.
In the 8 km race, starting from the west side of ses Illetes, Guille Matas (1:43:48), Rafa Cabanillas, from C.N. Sant Feliu (1:44:01), and Jordi Díaz from CE Marnaton (1:48:58) won. In the women’s category, Minerva Pujol of Geieg was first (1:59:16), Mireia Gómez of CN Sabadell second (2:03:57) and Marta Cucurull third (2:08:39).
In the 4.5 km, which started from the Levante side of Ses Illetes, Eloy Burillo of CN Cerdanyola (0:58:54) has taken the top of the podium, along with Oriol Olivé of CN Sabadell (1:00:10) and Simon Systermans (1:01:11). In the women’s category, Ariadna Moreno (1:04:59) took victory, Alessandra Novani (1:05:11) was second and Tere Fullana (1:07:33) of Tfswim, third.
Finally, in the 2km race, which started from the beach of es Trucadors, Agustí Planas of GEN Roses was first (26:10), Victor Ibañez second (26:52) and Stefano Bertoni third (27:14). In the women’s category the victory went to Núria Sanz (29:19), followed by Manuela Giovanardi (29:25) and Gaia Galli (33:00).
