Once again, the Pitiusas are on the verge of reaching 700 active cases of coronavirus infection, according to the latest data published by the Balearic Ministry of Health and Ibiza and Formentera Health Department. At the moment there are 691 people affected by the virus in the Pitiusas, one of them from Menorca (in the ICU, with after-effects of the disease and not requiring isolation), where the hospital is overcrowded.

These 691 cases are the highest number recorded in the Pitiusas since September 9th, when 717 cases were recorded. Moreover, it is 32% higher than a week ago, when 523 active infections were recorded in the Pitiusas.

40 infections detected in the last 24 hours in Ibiza and Formentera

In the last 24 hours private laboratories and the Can Misses Hospital microbiology laboratory have detected a total of 40 positive results for coronavirus. Of these, 38 correspond to Ibiza and two to Formentera. 97.8% of those affected by covid in the Pitiรผses are mild or asymptomatic.

For the moment, despite the increase in active cases of coronavirus, the vast majority of those affected are in a mild or even asymptomatic state. According to the Health Department, 97.8% of those infected are in this situation.

This figure of almost 700 cases was reached after a day in which private laboratories and the Can Misses Hospital microbiology laboratory detected 40 new cases, 38 of them in Ibiza and another two in Formentera. At the same time, doctors discharged a total of 25 cases, according to the Health Department.

The increase in active cases over the past day was not matched by an increase in the number of hospitalised covid patients. In fact, the number of patients requiring medical attention decreased slightly, from 16 on Tuesday to 15 yesterday. However, the number of critically ill patients as a result of the virus increased from two to three.

Can Misses Hospital has a total of 14 covid patients: twelve on the ward and two in the Intensive Care Unit, one of them a 50-year-old patient who was admitted on Tuesday afternoon from Formentera. This is the first covid patient from this island to be admitted to the Pitiusas public health system in the past three months, according to the Health Department. In addition to the 14 patients admitted to Can Misses Hospital, the Polyclinic Nuestra Seรฑora del Rosario also has a patient in its own critical care unit.
