Ibiza and Formentera have now exceed 20,000 diagnoses of coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the latest data from the covid database of the Balearic Ministry of Health, updated on Friday. Specifically, since February 9, 2020, when the first infection was detected on the islands, a total of 20,761 positives in the Pitiusas have been confirmedย between authorized private laboratories and the Microbiology of the Hospital Can Misses. Of these, 19,780 diagnoses of coronavirus correspond to Ibiza and the remaining 881 to Formentera.
These more than 20,000 positive coronavirus cases are not an exact figure of how many people of the Pitiusas have contracted covid. For several reasons. First of all, we must remember that during the first months of the pandemic there was no capacity to do PCR tests for everyone who had symptoms, so many recovered without being diagnosed. This summer, in addition, many tests have been performed on tourists in private laboratories, so there is a high number of positives, especially in the last wave, which do not correspond to residents in the Pitiusas.
Half of the positives in Vila
The municipality of Ibiza is very close to accounting for half of the positives of coronavirus on the island since the beginning of the pandemic: a total of 9,014, 45.6%. It is followed by Santa Eulร ria with 4,103 infections (20.75%), Sant Antoni with 3,350 (16.9%), Sant Josep with 2,898 positive tests (14.65%) and finally, at a considerable distance, Sant Joan, where 415 infections have been confirmed, representing just two out of every hundred cases reported on the island of Ibiza.
