Rarely is a press conference held with an alien carefully observing a councilwoman, although this is how the presentation of the Fantasía Ibiza Festival went. The creature, who took the artist’s body in a rapture of lucidity, only communicates with small sounds indecipherable to our ear. “She is the performer EllebannA, she has won an award at Cirque du Soleil and is a product of fantasy,” explained Rebecca Gamboa, one of the organizers, to the audience.

But EllebannA will not be alone, she will be accompanied by more than 70 artists living on the island of Ibiza who, between Friday 28th and Sunday 30th October, will spread their creative wings at the Fantasía Ibiza Festival. Live music, performances, live painting, acrobatics, projections, flashmobs, bodypainting, talks and workshops, are the activities that encompass this artistic offering that will take place in a very small space: the Plaza del Parque, Parque Reina Sofia and the bastion of Sant Pere in Vila. Many activities and in very close settings, allowing attendees to jump from one space to another without any problem.

Fantasía Ibiza Festival The art of the island

“This project was proposed to us before the pandemic, and we have been adapting it,” explained the Councillor for Tourism of the City of Ibiza, Desirée Ruiz, the councilor for Tourism of the Ibiza Town Hall, “we think it is a fantastic idea, in which many artists from the island have been involved, and that it is a very special closing for this season”.

The main characteristic of the Fantasía Ibiza Festival, together with its open, unprejudiced and participatory spirit , is the fact that all this amalgam of creators, coming from all over the world, are Ibiza residents. “We want to show all the creativity that lives on the island. This place has many things that we like. It knows how to party, it has a very spiritual side, and also a very intense artistic side,” said Lucía Barbiero, organizer of the meeting, “and this festival is a way to expose their creations. After a few months of being locked up, it is time to come out and show what we do”.

The activities will take place in various spaces from 5pm to 11pm. The sala Ebusus, on Paseo de Vara de Rey, will host the talks and presentations. The Plaza del Parque will be the spot for painters, flashmobs -each evening at 7:30pm- and interactive shows. The Parque Reina Sofia will be home to live music and body art, while the Sant Pere Bastion will host an exhibition of sculptors, as well as various performances and concerts.
