The worst news has been confirmed. A 89 year old woman has died in the fire that occurred in a building in the center of Vila, Ibiza.
Apparently the lady was alone in the house at the time the flames started and several witnesses saw her calling for help from the balcony. Then they saw her collapse when she tried to go to the door of the house and the body was found on the same balcony, which has now been accessed by firefighters.
The fire broke out at approximately 10.30am and the imposing flames coming from the balcony of the 6A apartment of the building, located at 24 Bartomeu de Roselló Avenue, attracted a crowd of onlookers.
The building had to be evacuated by officers of the Policía Local while the neighbors crowded in the street. At least three fire trucks worked to extinguish the flames and two ambulances were also deployed to attend to possible victims.
The strong flames burst the windows of the balcony, which fell onto the street. The avenida de Bartomeu de Roselló has been cut to traffic.
