Son of “Big Brother” creator denies attempted murder of ex-partner in Ibiza

In 2015 the Dutchman Johnny de Mol (actor and son of John de Mol, Dutch billionaire and businessman and co-founder of Endemol, the company behind the popular show ‘Big Brother’, among others) attended a wedding in Ibiza with his then partner, Shima Kaes, who has some business on the island.

According to the complaint filed by the woman, after the engagement and once they were at the hotel where they were staying, Johnny de Mol gave her a brutal beating that almost killed her. Shima Kaes reported the assault in Holland and the Dutch police investigated the case, but the Public Prosecutor’s Office concluded that there was no evidence of the assault to file criminal charges and dismissed the case last year.

Kaes then filed the complaint before the ibiza court, which has seen evidence of the alleged crime and has summoned him to testify as an investigator. So the accused, Johnny de Mol – whose lawyer in Spain is Jaime Campaner – appeared yesterday, Monday, December 9, by videoconference before the Court of Violence against Women number 1 of Ibiza from Holland and has categorically denied the facts, according to sources close to the case. After the appearance of De Mol, the process will probably continue with the summoning of witnesses proposed by the prosecution.

Accused twice

De Mol’s Dutch lawyer, Wout Morra, recently explained to a Dutch newspaper what he thought about a court in Ibiza charging his client with something that was dismissed in the Netherlands: “This is exactly the same charge that has already been dismissed in the Netherlands. You can’t prosecute someone twice for the same crimeand it appears that the other party did not inform the Spanish court of the Dutch investigation and dismissal. It is highly questionable that the Spanish investigation would continue once the case has been dismissed. In the meantime, Ms. Kaes failed to appear three times in her own proceedings in the Netherlands, but offered Johnny de Mol to buy the case for 425,000 euros. This smacks of (attempted) blackmail, precisely the crime for which Ms. Kaes’ advisors are being prosecuted in this context.”
