Shabby accommodation on Ibiza for “spiritual” tourists

Shacks, huts and even vans hidden in the forest are offered as tourist accommodation on Airbnb for another summer.

They are a bit more hidden than in other summers, but they are there. Shacks, huts, tents or vans in the middle of the forest withstand as tourist accommodation on Airbnb. The platform has changed its search filters and now locating these alternative stays is not so easy, but these tourist infra-accommodations remain, resistant to deterrants and without the island authorities or the platform itself doing anything despite the fact that they have been on offer for years. Some of them clearly do not comply with any safety measures, but in Ibiza, as you know, the word natural, magic or authentic are used to disguise authentic squalor.

Accommodation disguised with clever wording

This is the case of Donn’s shack, a classic. He sells it as a “glass house”, but in reality it is a shack composed of different doors (two of them glass) from other houses and has a parasol as a roof. The photos in which the shabbiness was more evident have disappeared from the page for this accommodation, for which a minimum of three nights is required at a rate of 44 euros each, plus service charges, which are a minimum of 23 euros. Donn offers two other tourist accommodations, a “remote cottage” which he describes as “eco-finca” and warns that it may be “dusty”. It is a stone construction whose roof, although not well appreciated, seems to be composed of plastic: 66 euros a night (plus 34 service fee). And a “tree hut” which is also a shack and which sells for “mentally and spiritually independent” travelers: 35 euros plus service charge.

The three lodgings are located at an undetermined point between Vila and the airport, in the middle of the countryside, without phone coverage and the two huts share a cold shower and compost toilet. All three are occupied throughout August and part of September. The host appeals to the natural and the spiritual. Between the three houses he earns 145 euros a day, which, taking into account the occupancy shown on the platform, is about 4,500 a month.
