The Sant Antoni City Council is working on the tender for the demolition and removal project of a property that has had long-term squatters. At the moment, municipal sources assure that “there are no deadlines” to demolish the structure.
The consistory opened a declaration of ruin on the house, located in calle Garrovers in the neighborhood of Can Bonet, at the end of May, considering that the building could collapse at any moment, so there is a danger to people and also to the urban landscape.
It was at that time when the City Council had to notify the squatters living there of their eviction, but, to date, they have not yet left the house. In this regard, Mayor Marcos Serra said five months ago that, for safety reasons, a precautionary eviction could be carried out, without the need for a notice of eviction; it was enough for the City Council to present the declaration of ruin of the property and for the judge to sign the precautionary eviction of the structure.
So far this has not happened, despite Serra describing the state of the structure as “in ruins”.
Squatters situation generates insecurity for neighbours
It should be recalled that some residents of the neighborhood had complained to the City Council, adding, moreover, that small illegal works had been carried out on the plot. In fact, the Neighbors Association of Can Bonet has on several occasions expressed its “concern” about this squat. Its president, Maria José Torres, explained to this newspaper weeks ago that neighbors of the area worry most about the “insecurity” it generates.
