8 rock and metal bands headline the Ibiza Can Rock Festival

From stoner to trash and death metal bands and a tribute to Metallica this weekend at Es Birra de es Canar

“It is a festival for the return to normality in the rock world”, says Matteo Mochen, who together with Pablo Kiaro is organising this weekend’s Can Rock Festival, with eight hard rock and metal bands in the Es Birra hall in es Canar.

The line-up starts on Friday with the Italians from Brescia Jena and their stoner rock, the Mallorcan tribute band Metàl-lica and the Mallorcan groove metal of Vice City. Saturday will continue with the new Ibizan nu metal band Badak, the Barcelona psycho rock of Electric Monolith, the Ibizan trash of Apotropaico and the Cartagena band Injector, to close with the death metal of Trallery, also from Mallorca. On both days the doors will open at 8:30pm and tickets are on sale at for 10€ online at www.entradium.com or 12€ at the door.

“After organizing the festival online last year we were really looking forward to the return of the festival in person”, explains Mochen, “plus you can now do it with people standing up and that is priceless. Keep in mind that we do this as a group of friends for the love of art, for the passion for this music and because we believe it is necessary to do it in Ibiza and for the people of the island”.

Space for metal bands

“We want to open a space for the rock and metal audience on the island, where there are very few possibilities to enjoy these kind of concerts”, insists Mochen, who with Kiaro and the folks from Apotropaico were playing in the days of Can Rock in Cala de Bou.

Of the eight bands of different styles that complete the line-up only two will be making their debut on Ibiza, the Italians Jena and the Cartagena-based Injector. The rest have already played on the island previously and have won over a good number of fans, like the Mallorcan trio in their double tribute to Metallica and Trallery, with which they have made a name for themselves on a national level, or the Catalans Electric Monolith.

And among the Ibizans, Badak will make their debut on the stage, made up of old acquaintances from the Ibizan metal scene with Roberto Samper as frontman, with Alex Costa, Pat Pardo and Jose Fernandez.

The desire to hold a festival last year led them to set it up online with 16 bands, and in view of the unexpected success, with more than a hundred attendees via streaming and 2,000 plays on the same day, they decided to return to the stage. And the audience has responded once again. Yesterday they had already sold out 70% of the venue.

It has been five months of work, with the technical collaboration of Iván Margarit, Alejandro Iborra and Toni Bonet, and Mochen assures that the bands have given everything to come to Ibiza and place the island on the metal circuit.
