The PSOE of Ibiza has denounced before the Oficina de la Dona “the use of women as a sexual lure” in a construction fair held last weekend at the fairgrounds of Eivissa, as confirmed by the secretary of Equality of the Socialist Federation of Eivissa (FSE), Aida Alcaraz.
Objectifaction of women
The controversy arose on Saturday when a Twitter user (@moltniga) shared an image showing two hostesses at the fair wearing construction helmets and reflective vests over a rather skimpy outfit. An image on which she asked the Consell de Ibiza: “Do you think it is normal that the hostesses of the construction fair dress like this? As a woman I find this use of women’s bodies disgusting”. A comment that received the support of some women dedicated to the world of construction, who, suffering day by day what it means for them to work in a very masculinized sector, lamented the image this projected of women. Isabel Llinàs, former director of the Institut Balear de la Dona during the PP government, also responded to the tweet, calling it “objectification of women” and defended the Consell de Ibiza: “I am certain that they do not agree with this objectification”.
And no, they did not. In the moments when the images began to spread, the Consell asked “in good faith to the promoter of the stand to change the attire of the hostesses”. “He has refused on the grounds that it did not violate any rule of the enclosure or any law,” continued a spokesman for the institution, which insisted that the Consell “has not participated in the organization of this private event.” “It is a space that a company has rented to promote it as a fair,” said the same spokesman.
