The World Cleanup Day, which is celebrated this Friday 15th of September at a global level, has once again given a new impetus to the regular cleanup days, especially on the beaches of Eivissa. The Plastic Free alliance has organised several throughout the weekend, and the Sant Antoni Town Hall, supported by private entities and companies, another one on Sunday on the beach of s’Arenal.
The actions have been coordinated nationally and internationally with the organizations Let’s Do It Spain and World Cleanup Day.
The Plastic Free alliance, composed of 13 non-profit organizations of the Pitiusas, organizes six cleanups in Ibizaled by the NGOs One Planet One Life and Voluntaris d’Eivissa. The actions will take place between 9:30h and 13:00h in various areas of the island with the aim of facilitating citizen participation. The meeting points will be the following: In Cala Comte at 9.30 am and in the other points from 10 am, in Talamanca, next to the Flotante; in ses Figueretes, in the Julà Verdera square; in Platja d’en Bossa at the height of the Nassau, in the parking lot of es Cavallet and in ses Païsses, at the door of the Eroski.
For those who can not attend on Saturday, Plàstic Free will organize a cleanup also on Sunday 17 from 10 am in Cala Vedella, and also on Sunday 24 of
september at the same time in Es Figueral.
“The beach cleanups are an awareness action for the citizenship that we always enjoy because the community turns with us to maintain our environment
clean. However, from Plastic Free Ibiza and Formentera we continue to insist that the real solution is to raise awareness and educate: cleaning does not solve the problem of the
pollution we generate. It is solved by stopping generating unnecessary waste,” says Ayelén Alonso, coordinator of this alliance.
