Orange alert in Ibiza for heavy rains and storms

The Aemet has activated the warning for Thursday in the Pitiusas, where up to 20 litres per square metre could fall in an hour

Ibiza and Formentera will be on orange alert this Thursday for heavy rain and storms. The State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) has activated the warning in the Pitiusas, where up to 22 litres per square metre could fall in an hour. The Aemet is also keeping the yellow warning active for Wednesday afternoon. Likewise, Emergencies 112 has activated the Severity Index 0 (IG0) for rain and storms throughout the Balearic Islands.

Specifically, there will be important risk (orange level) of rain this Wednesday in the inland Mallorcawhere it can reach 40 liters of accumulated rainfall in an hour and a 80 or 90 liters in two or three hours.

For its part, the Pitiusasthis Wednesday will be in yellow risk for rainfall accumulated in an hour of between 20 and 30 liters.

The Agency has also detected, a strong storm that is moving this Wednesday towards the north of Mallorca and Menorca that seems to be weakening “but still could leave quite a lot of electrical apparatus, heavy rainfall and perhaps some hail or strong wind,” as reported through social networks.

The rains will continue until Friday with yellow warning in Ibiza and Formentera.
