How the illegal anchorage ‘pirate’ works on Ibiza

The pirate, who is being investigated by the Guardia Civil, continues to operate in Porroig.

Salvem sa Badia has denounced that the ‘pirate‘ of the illegal anchorages of Porroig continues to work “with impunity” despite being investigated by the Guardia Civil for environmental crimes and has been accussed of death threats.

As the environmental association explains on its website, attaching countless videos recorded on Sunday, this man, who has taken over the bay of Porroig, continues with the illegal anchorages that he places himself.

A millionaire pirate business

“In the videos you can see him talking to customers who rent his moorings and bringing them a line to anchor. The same source who has recorded them has explained that he has also had the opportunity to speak with some users of this illegal facility, confirming that they pay the rent directly to this individual. Other sources in the area claim that with each mooring he obtains several thousand euros per month and that he owns dozens of them. Some seasons he may have accumulated more than a hundred”, explains Salvem sa Badia.

In other videos published by the association you can see how this pirate has several boats that he is tying to the spare moorings and constantly moving them from one to another depending on the ones he is ‘renting’.

Salvem sa Badia adds: “Many of the pirate’s clients are illegal charters that use Porroig as an anchorage and the docks of the dry docks as a port, constantly picking up clients and supplies. They also unload huge bags of garbage in the same place, transferring it to the containers next to the access road to the cove. The containers are overflowing and the bags of garbage pile up next to them. They sail their dinghies among the bathers, children included, who have had enough of this abuse and have begun to rebuke them.”
