One of Ibiza’s architectural jewels for sale for 2.8 million euros

The real estate portal Idealista advertises the sale of one of the most important architectural jewels of lbiza. It is one of the six modern and at the same time austere houses of Can Pep Simówhich is part of a complex declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 2009. The property, for sale by Lucas Fox for 2.8 million euros, was designed by the architect Josep Lluís Sert together with Germán Rodríguez Arias and Antoni Ferran, between 1964 and 1969.

The group of buildings is located on a slope from which it emerges with the earth color surrounded by vegetation: pines, junipers, mastic trees, rosemary and myrtle, which offer intimacy to each of the houses. The bylaws of the urbanization specify that there can be no walls or fences in this space, since the arrangement of the houses obeys the intention of visualizing them as a village, integrated into the landscape. No house blocks the views to others and they are arranged according to the Ibizan tradition of terracing the land through stone terraces.

The property for sale is situated on a large plot of land of 1.300 square meters and has a built area of 226 square meters, “with the possibility of adding a swimming pool,” explains the real estate portal ad. It boasts spectacular views over the bay of Ibiza and Dalt Vila.

The house has a kitchen, a large living room with fireplace and access to a beautiful terrace of more than 46 square meters. Its four bedrooms are distributed in two symmetrical wings, with an inner courtyard in the center that brings light to the house. It has three bathrooms.

The house has two private parking areas. In addition, the roof terrace provides multiple possibilities to enjoy the views and the tranquility of the neighborhood in Cap Martinet, in the municipality of Santa Eulària.

The routes through this house are open and diverse – the same place can be reached by different paths – and that makes it seem larger and more complex, explains Sert’s great-nephew, Paco Sert, in the magazine Arquitectura y diseño.

Josep Lluís Sert and Ibiza

The Catalan architect was a lover of the island who already in the 70s defended the uniqueness of Ibiza and the need to protect it. “Introducing elements of imported architecture will destroy the unity and harmony that have managed to survive the passage of centuries. A constant discipline of limitation to authentic forms is imposed if we want Ibiza to remain what it is, something unique,” said Sert, as Miguel Angel Gonzalez reports in one of the articles published in his section of the Sunday magazine Memoria de la isla. Sert is buried in the cemetery of Jesus.
