Ibiza Town cedes land to Ibavi to build more than 200 new subsidised rental homes

Ibiza Town Council has taken another step forward in its strategy to improve access to housing by transferring two municipal plots to the Balearic Housing Institute (Ibavi). The measure, unanimously approved during the municipal plenary session, will allow the construction of more than 200 subsidised rental homes at regulated prices.

The plots are located at Sant Francesc de ses Salines, 15, and Canàries, 16, and will be incorporated into the regional Build to Rent programme, promoted by the Balearic Government’s Ministry of Housing.

Priority for residents in Ibiza Town and young people

According to the project’s regulations, priority will be given to residents registered in the municipality who have lived there continuously for at least ten years. In addition, 25% of the homes will be reserved for people under the age of 35.
The council will also be granted free use of the commercial premises on the ground floors of both buildings, which will become part of the municipal assets and will be used for public facilities or services of general interest.

The Mayor of Ibiza, Rafael Triguero, emphasised that this transfer “represents a decisive step towards the creation of affordable housing in the municipality and a genuine commitment to families and young people who want to live and work in the city”.

During the same plenary session, other issues were also addressed, such as the modification of the street cleaning and waste collection contract — with a 6.5% increase to improve the service — and the reclassification of two plots intended for new educational centres: an Adult Education Centre (CEPA) and a Secondary School.

In addition, the new Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU) 2026–2029 was approved, strengthening coordination in risk situations and updating response protocols.

With these measures, Ibiza Town Council reinforces its policy of making public land available for social purposes, particularly to meet the growing demand for affordable housing in a municipality where rental prices have soared in recent years.

The initiative forms part of the ‘Ibiza, a City to Live In’ plan, through which the council aims to balance urban growth and improve residents’ quality of life.
